Formal Raised Field

 

The client was looking for a bold statement.  Taking cues from the surrounding agricultural landscape, the concept was to create a stunning, geometric raised field.  Set in a formal lawn, the 'field'  could be sown with different crops every year.  This enormous raised bed is 50 metres long by 9 metres wide.  A timber ramp allow it to be cultivated by a small tractor. After a few years of sunflowers and wheat the clients opted to plant the field with Lavandula x intermedia 'Grosso': the classic Lavender variety grown across Provence.
